Coron: The Maquinit Hot Spring

Sa lahat po ng nag-greet sa akin nung birthday ko, ipinaaabot ko ang aking taus-pusong pasasalamat. Thank you for your prayers and wishes.

Now, on to our next vacation destination: the Maquinit Hot Spring, still in the town of Coron in Palawan.

The Maquinit Hot Spring is just about 5 km east of the Coron town proper. You can reach the hot spring by tricycle. Fare is 35Php per person. You can arrange for the driver to wait for you if you won’t be staying long. Or you can ask him to fetch you on a particular time.

The Maquinit Hot Spring has two small and one wide pools with hot saltwater that sooths your tired muscles. After enjoying sunset in Mt. Tapyas, pamper your tired feet here πŸ™‚ It is the only saltwater hot spring in the country, sabi ng caretaker, hehehe. It is said that during World War II, some Japanese soldiers set up a camp in this part of Coron to rest for a few days and mend their wounds. The temperature of the saltwater in Maquinit Hot Spring can reach 40 degrees Celsius.

Since the hot spring is located on the shorefront, at the entrance of mangrove-filled Coron harbor, it offers a great view of what’s in store for you as you explore more of Coron.

Next post, we’ll go island hopping in Coron!

  3. Hi Nortehanon,
Wow ang ganda ng lugar na yan. My plan of visiting Coron one day is still out if reach. Buti ka pa naka punta ka na dyan.
By the way, my Pens of Hope launching in my place obviously did not happened during my vacation, instead my wife and me served home made cakes to the kids in the DSWD run day care center. But I am not giving up…one day I will have my share of giving pens to the kids….

Hi Dex. Don’t worry, di naman nagmamadali ang project na yan eh. As they always say, there is always time for everything. Good luck. Let me know once you push through with it.

  5. i’d been there for a year teaching in cabugao adjacent the maquinit hot spring. before we go on to my station we dropped by at this hot spring to cook our baon (eggs) at maligo na rin, then proceed to cabugao which i stayed for a week including saturday and sunday teaching the children because if the sea is rough i can’t report there, so i just take advantage while am with them to work sayang naman kc ang time wasted if am not with them. my family lived in coron proper where my hubby worked. Hi Paul, thank you for the suggestion. I have been to Puerto Princesa twice or thrice. Yes, you are right, there are also lots of amazing views in Puerto. I haven’t been to El Nido nor San Vicente and Dos Palmas though. I’m hoping someday I can also visit those places. Wish me luck πŸ˜€

    Hi Paul,
Thank you for dropping by and for taking time to leave a comment.
Nakakatuwa naman that you stayed pala in Coron. Ang ganda talaga dun, di ba? It must have been a thrill to teach the kids in the island. Pero delikado rin siguro kapag rough ang weather. So where do you teach now? Nagtuturo ka pa rin ba?

Hi Cedric. It’s a madi πŸ™‚ Glad to have another Waray visiting me. At lalo akong natuwa kasi blogger ka rin.

Indeed, Coron is one of the most beautiful places in Pinas. Keep in touch.

  19. Where are you based pala? Just returned to Manila after staying for over a month sa Borongan. Will definitely keep in touch, through photos and comments at least. πŸ˜€

  20. Nice place! Your photography presented it well…
I wish I can also visit this place…

  21. nortehanon May 17th 2010

    Salamat po! Am flattered hahaha.
MInsan po if you have time, pasyal ka rin po sa Coron. I’m sure you’ll bring home great photos! The place is a photographer’s haven–whether you’re an amateur like me or a professional.

  22. Hi,
Me and my family are going to Coron this month. After taking a dip at the Maquinit Hotspring, where can we change our clothes? Naka tricycle lang kasi kami going there. πŸ™‚

    Appreciate your response! Thanks!
    Bena

  23. nortehanon May 6th 2011

    Hi Bena,
Thanks for dropping in. When we went there, meron namang toilets. There were two yata. But if you’re going back to the place you are staying right after taking a dip at Maquinit, puwede naman kahit hindi na magbihis agad hehehe. If I remember it right, that’s what we did when my friend and I went there πŸ™‚ Sa lodging na kami nagbihis.

Make sure the tricycle waits for you ha? Baka kasi mahirapan kayo kumuha ng tricycle pauwi.

    Have fun in Coron!
